People I Like

I'm not going to pretend that I don't like the big authors that everyone likes, I still feel like a kid at Christmas everytime a new Michael Connolly book is released, it's hard to tear me away from a Dennis Lehane book once I've got my nose in it and a Jeffrey Deaver will mean the bedside light stays on well into the night. However here you'll find writers and publishers that you might not have heard of or considered before.

Byker Books - Publishers of the Radgepacket collections of short stories and some of the best British fiction that doesn't get the audience that it deserves.  Byker Books gives a voice to writers of darkly funny and gritty fiction from the streets that you and I live in.

Near to the Knuckle - Aim to bring you gritty and interesting short fiction across multiple genres from a range of talented writers.  It's a really great  and varied online collection of short stories.

Thrillers, Killers 'n' Chillers - a webzine dedicated to writing and reading short stories and flash fiction in the most daring of genres, including crime, noir, action, thriller, horror, weird, spooky, supernatural and slice of life.

George Pelecanos - To me it seems ridiculous that I'm including this guy here.  He is, in my opinion the best writer working today, however I was speaking with an agent the other day and he told me that Pelecanos really doesn't sell well in the UK - Well shame on you UK!  If you haven't already done so check him out, you can thank me later.

Darren Sant - His Tales of the Longcroft Estate collection is a real showcase of his work and is available through Byker Books.  Darren is also an editor at Near to the Knuckle.  Read my interview with Darren

Danny King - For lovers of diary books with an edge, Bridget Jones fans need not apply

Tom Arnold - His novel Dumb Luck was the first thing I read from the Byker Books stable and I instantly knew I'd found a publisher that I'd like

Andy Rivers - The writer of one of my favourite books of the last few years Maxwell's Silver Hammer

Allan Guthrie - Is an award winning writer of crime fiction and an agent, he's too busy to take me on - But I'll still give him a plug because I do like his stuff
