Near to the Knuckle presents: Gloves Off
The first Near to the Knuckle Anthology has been named Gloves Off and the cover design of the book is equally hard-hitting I think you'll agree. As one of the contributors to this collection I've received an advanced copy and I have to say it looks great. Each story is topped and tailed with some very cool artwork, which makes this the best looking collection I've seen on the Kindle. It's obvious that Craig Douglas and Darren Sant have put a lot of very hard work and passion into this project and they deserve massive credit for not only creating a very visually impressive book but also for being able to attract such a superb list of writers, making this collection one of 2013's must reads for fans of hard-hitting fiction.
I listed all of the authors that appear in this collection last month in the news section of this site, but it wasn't until I saw them all on the page that I really appreciated what a stellar line-up I had been included in. It was with pride and more than a hint of trepidation that I looked at the contents page and saw that my story 'Brotherly Love' has the unenviable task of following the master of noir Paul D. Brazill. To me that feels a little bit like asking a street busker to take to the stage after Metallica! It is also the perfect indication to me that I have been included in something very very special.
Turning to the first story and seeing the name Gareth Spark at the top is the instant mark of quality that guarantees something special is coming. I'm familiar with the work of many of the contributors in this collection and I can honestly say that if you buy this book you are not going to be disappointed and you'll also understand why it is such a great honour for me to have been included in such esteemed company. This book really is littered with top talent, I marveled at Allen Miles' 18 Days when I read it last year, Pete Sortwell's work has had me laughing out loud and David Barber's collection of short stories was the first collection I've ever read cover to cover rather than dropping in and out and I now find myself alongside all of these guys and more in this book. Let's hope that this is the first of many collections from Near to the Knuckle.
